Data Engineer | UK’s Leading Travel Company | Alteryx & Big Query | £50-60k
RedCat Digital are working with one of world’s leading travel brands to find a Data Engineer to join the team in London.
My client has been a leading travel operator for over 40 years and has a broad portfolio consisting of travel agencies, airlines, aircraft, hotels and cruise liners. This vast offering enables them to design unique tailored holiday experiences to over 30 million customers around the globe. Currently they employ over 77,000 employees worldwide and are listed in the FTSE index.
Their recently established analytics hub is the next step in my clients’ journey to improve the understanding of their customers. By rolling out new analytics and reporting platforms across multiple markets they are becoming an essential part of the business transformation going forward.
The Data Engineer Role
We are looking for a strong Data Engineer to join their growing team of global analytics experts; this role will form an integral support function to the Analytics Hub team. You will support a team of data scientists and analysts on data initiatives and work with Data Architects and Developers within the IT function, to ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects.
Key deliverables include:
- Manage the pipelining (collection, storage, access), engineering (cleansing, feature creation / selection) and understanding (documentation, exploration) of this data.
- Acquire, create and manage innovative data assets for the team. These assets will draw from various sources – internal and external systems, flat files, databases, external APIs and so on
- Evaluate user requests for new or re-engineered analytics and reporting solutions to determine their feasibility and time requirements, and their compatibility with current systems and architecture standards
- Deliver new capabilities to the business through agile delivery methods, so a working knowledge and experience of Agile, Scrum and Jira would be beneficial.
The right person for this role will be degree educated in a quantitative subject with at least 2 years’ experience in a commercial setting. The team currently use a combination of Hadoop, SQL, Big Query, Alteryx, R, Python and Tableau, so skills in these areas are desirable. You will have the ability to design, implement and use effective database structures to ensure data is organised effectively and ready for downstream development of data science and analytics as well as having experience working in a structured environment and desire for good documentation, exceptional delivery, effective organisation, and high-quality communication with team and customers.
