The world of digital challenger banks is ever-growing with more players coming to the fore looking to disrupt the banking industry. However there is one company in this space who are different to the others. You likely haven’t heard of this company but they are the UK’s original challenger bank, originally established to help micro-business who were getting a raw deal form the high street banks. In 2005 they introduced the UK’s first prepaid card and were the first non-bank to offer a current account. To date they have opened over 1.3 million customer accounts and have been a profitable business for the past 7 years, something that no other challenger bank can claim.
The next stage of their evolution includes completing the application of their banking licence in 2019 allowing them to now approach the direct to consumer market. With this in mind, they are now implementing huge growth plans, currently at 200 people they look to grow by another 500 over the next 4 years with the Data Science team being a key part of their growth.
Their current need is for an enthusiastic Data Scientist with a strong mathematical and statistical background to join the team. You will employ Machine Learning techniques to build customer profiles, developing insights on the customer experience and their usage of my clients’ products. You will develop predictive models that can improve forecasting, cross sales, retention and the customer journey.
The right person for this role will have a strong academic background in mathematics, statistics, computer science or something similar and will have some experience in a commercial setting outside of academia. You will have the technical ability to code in Python & R and will be comfortable using SQL. Other than the technical capabilities, it is expected you will have strong communication skills and a natural curiosity and enthusiasm for all things data.
