A well-established media company are looking for an Engineering Manager in London for a 6 month contract paying £600 per day, to work on an ambitious transformation project, leading a team of 50 people through a period of change.

About the role

This role is with a massive media company responsible for some of the biggest brands around the world, led by some of the most influential people in fashion, tech, and media. You’d be hard pressed to find a brand as well known and ubiquitously liked.

This is a chance to be part of an engineering team of 50 people, working working with Software Engineers, Tech Leads, Product Designers, UX Leads. They are in the middle of a very ambitious transformation project, rebuilding their platform into React, Redux, and Node – and part of that is creating the right culture for the team, as well improving processes, making sure things are done the right way, and building out a new subscription service from the ground up – a Greenfield endeavour.

You’ll have great influence across the direction of the company’s tech, how the you standardise best practices across teams and progress the scale of the platforms.

What’s expected of you

It’s important that you have both the experience and desire to manage a team in a time of change – this project is very much in its early stages, so you’d be a part of defining the direction in which to go, and establishing a strong operational layer for the team to build upon. On top of that, a strong understanding of the full SDLC is a major advantage, as well as previous experience working with their tech stack – React, Node, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS. If you’ve been a part of a similar transformation before that’s a massive plus – if it was with a publishing house or media company, even better; they really like self-starters, people who can take the initiative and bring something new to the table – you’ll be taking care of a team of 50 people, so the ability to guide and mentor the more junior members of the team would be invaluable.
