Donald Trump says Apple should make products in the US not China... China China China

In the latest edict from President Donald Trump, he hits out at the US tech industry, claiming that Apple should make its watch and headphone products in the US to avoid high Chinese tariffs.

Trump tweeted on Saturday that Apple should make products in the United States to avoid Chinese tariffs in the future.

Apple, meanwhile, told trade officials in a letter last week that the proposed tariffs would affect prices for a “wide range” of Apple products.

Apple’s AirPods and Beats headphones and its new HomePod smart speaker face levies if the current package of $200bn in tariffs goes ahead later this week.

Trump tweeted that: “Apple prices may increase because of the massive Tariffs we may be imposing on China – but there is an easy solution where there would be ZERO tax, and indeed a tax incentive. Make your products in the United States instead of China. Start building new plants now.”

Meanwhile, Apple said in its letter: “The burden of the proposed tariffs will fall much more heavily on the United States than on China.”
